Although there is no baptismal record for this James Dunkerley, he is likely to be a brother of John and Moses Dunkerley. We know from the parish registers that he had two children. It was probably he who witnessed and signed his name at the marriage between Edwards Smith and Esther Hallowes in 1654. He was also likeley to be the James who, with his wife Marie, paid 6d in the 1641 assessment (see the miscellaneous section, page 273 of the LPRS transcript of the early Oldham Registers). James and Marie were also mentioned in the Protestation Roll of 1642. James may also have been listed in the 1664 Hearth Tax Records.
This James was almost certainly the brother of John and Moses, the sons of James. I have included Daniel Dunkerley in his family and I think it possible that he was the father of Martha of Coohill, who married Robert Thorpe in 1654.
